Creating Calm Cuts is a mini class led by the Sensory Society, a collective of neurodivergent allies specializing in sensory-informed grooming for children with autism and other neurodivergent individuals. Founded by Ronnie Cruz, the Sensory Society was born out of isolation—each member has navigated the emotional, physical, and professional challenges of loneliness that comes with this niche, with little guidance and no shared support for what we were experiencing behind the chair.
For most of us, our early work was built through trial and error. Over time, lived experiences became intentional methods, reliable techniques, and a process that works. This class exists to pass that knowledge forward so the next generation of professionals doesn’t have to work in silence or guess their way through moments that matter deeply to families and clients.
Creating Calm Cuts is grounded in the belief that being licensed means more than mastering trends. It means holding responsibility. It means understanding that feeling beautiful also means feeling safe, respected, and regulated—especially for those who experience the salon as overwhelming or distressing.
This class introduces five essential fundamentals that create a clear, repeatable process for working with individuals who are not comfortable in traditional salon settings. Through a sensory-aware lens, learners will gain a foundational understanding of sensory challenges, how to intentionally build trust and relationships, and how to navigate services with confidence, compassion, and adaptability.
At its core, this class is about changing the culture of haircare—creating spaces where all people are considered, and where professionals feel empowered to grow beyond style alone and into service with purpose.
